The five-day Neonatal Basic and Advanced Life Support (NBLS/NALS) instructor and provider course for the eastern region, which began on September 30 at the Eastern Regional Referral Hospital (ERRH) conference hall, concluded yesterday.
The primary goals of the training were to save newborn lives through evidence-based interventions immediately after birth and beyond. It also aimed to train instructor candidates in the NBLS/NALS course and enable them to train provider candidates.
This training is part of the Druk Sokchop Bhutan Lifesavers’ initiative and was delivered using a blended learning approach. Participants first completed the NBLS/NALS course on the OpenKGUMSB platform, followed by hands-on training during the current session.
A total of 28 participants from various health centers in the eastern region, including ERRH, attended the course. Among them, 13 were trained as instructors and 15 as providers. The training was facilitated by four resource persons, including Dr. Dinesh Pradhan, a neonatologist from JDWNRH, and was supported by UNICEF.
