The Department of Radio-diagnosis and Imaging conducted a 2 days CME on ‘Radiation Hazard and Protection’ for staff from Department of Orthopaedics, Department of Dental Surgery, Department of Anaesthesia and Biomedical Engineering Service Unit on 06/06/2024 and 07/06/2024”.
The CME was conducted with the following objectives;
1. To educate healthcare professionals working with radiation about the various types of radiation, their sources and potential health hazards associated with it.
2. To elucidate the fundamental principles of radiation protection, including ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and the measures to minimize radiation exposure.
3. To educate on the proper use and placement of TLD badges as tools for monitoring and measuring personal radiation exposure.
4. To discuss the specific radiation safety protocols in Operation Theatres, Dental and Radiology Departments.
5. To ensure that healthcare professionals are aware of and compliant with local and international regulatory standards and guidelines concerning radiation safety.
